Lives Taken.

Dear Dreamers,

I have a morning routine. First thing in the morning, toilet time then chunking down a mouthful of water, or a glass. Then, get back to bed, reach out to my big ass mobile. As usual, scrolling on whatsapp replies, checking out instagram uploads, viewing Facebook updates and reading twitter feeds.

Today's twitter feeds are filled with CNN and BBC breaking news. I see live tweets on Boston's marathon explosion. All celebrities I'm stalking following retweeting news, messages, links of videos, help and prayers. I checked the stock market. Dows down 265.86 points. That's 1.8% . Big deal. Then I realize, why am I checking on stock market when tragedy is happening.

I begin thinking~ Oh god, of all places to attack.. Why near the finish line of a marathon? Do they have any idea of the crowd? Family members, children will be at the finishing, waiting for their runners. One 8yo boy dead while running to hug his daddy when he saw him finishing. Many children badly wounded.  Many victims losses part of their body, and some...  their soul. I never do the "pray for Boston" thing like many did over the social network. Although I silently chant amitabha.

Then, a Facebook status caught my eye. "Today,  Boston explosion took 3 lives and many injured. Anyone happen to know 53 lives were taken from 5 car bombing in Iraq last Friday?" (I rephrased) True isn't it? Why is explosion in Boston catching more attention and heart of the world than the one happened in Iraq? In fact, when there's tragedy, everyone feel bad. Perhaps it's about the expectation. If it happens in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, people expect riot, chaos, unatable, bombing, even death of innocent lives. However, people do not expected that in developed country. People like myself do not expect bombing at marathon.  People do not simply do not expect death.

I haven't watch any footage or interviews of the victims at scene. It is already painful by reading the news feed. I don't have to see it myself to feel worst. All I did was posting "If any of you happen to be in Boston, please visit your nearest Redcross station and donate some blood. Please do something. " That's all. It's seriously bullshit to say or tweet or post message of "pray for Boston". How many of those who posted will actually do it? One will do it without having to claim he pray for the victims and Boston publicly. I don't really pray, sorry but I just don't. But there are moments I deeply, sincerely feel sad and sorry for what had happened.

Today ended with 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked border of Iran and Pakistan. Death toll reaches 75 as I blog. Government expecting hundreds of dead. On side note, a magnitude 6.7 hit Iran just 6 days ago, claiming over 30 lives. To be frank, we are all helpless. Isn't it? Lives are taken everyday, every hour, every minutes and there's nothing you can do to stop it. You just can't. Amitabha.

What to-do in 2013 ?

March already.
I am well aware of that...
Haven't been productive?
Not exactly.

Anyway I needed some time to figure it out. Setting little goals. Furthermore, renovation and picking tiles, home appliances etc. definitely used up my patients to sit tight and blog. So, this took a while.

On side note, it's not for any of you who somehow come across my blog.. it's for my own record isn't it?

Here they are! My 2013 To-do list

1. Move in by end of May

2. Pick up yoga/ pilates

3. Read at least 3 book

4. Plan well (financially)

5. Travel to a new place

6. Dine in more

7. Learn a language

8. Achievement at work

CNY 2013

"Wherever you are, be home for new year", says Papa for the past 15 years.

image

Chinese new year is greatly celebrated by the Chinese, I personally think (and supported by many) especially the Malaysian. We keep the tradition. And I'm sure we will pass it on. In comparison to those I met in Hong Kong or my colleagues from the PRC, I deeply feel the festive mode from my fellows Malaysian. As for myself, I couldn't wait to be home for CNY!

image

Its different now that grandma left. It's our second CNY without her. Anyway, life goes on. Her spirit and love will.be with us, always.

Lastly, Wishing all a happy, healthy, prosperous and blissful year fill with many laughter and appreciation.

Review 2012 Goals

Remember earlier this year, I've listed my 2012 goals?

Well, maybe I should check on it before I start making another list.

Goal 1. Learn how to bake.
Status: Failed.
Except the Itoya Japanese Cheesecake baked. I never learn anything new. This is bad. There are lots of excuses.

Goal 2. Continuing with my fitness plan and trying to lose some weight.
Status: Success and Fail.
I haven't lost a pound in scale. However, I seem to lose some. My arse and tights are smaller. My tummy is flatter. My arms are still flabby though. More hardwork needed I guess.

Goal 3. Budgeting and save money.
Status: Success.
Roy and I have our own home now! Although parents helped a lot for first installment, but we got our mortgage loan approved. So, financially independent. Paying bills and now loans.

Goal 4. Read twelve books before 31 December 2012
Status: Failed
Honestly, fail big time. Most of my time spent at work, sports and catching up dramas. I have not make time for books. Not proud of that but... well, I won't give up on this goal !

Goal 5. More dive trips
Status: Failed
It is really hard make time for dives. Dive trips normally require 5 days at min. Our maximum holiday break is 4 days. Furthermore, with new commitment, I have to be smart in handling our account from now. So, perhaps once a year ?

Goal 6. Photo project
Status: Success
I have more than 365 pictures. At least one per day.

Goal 7. Be more creative with love and happy thoughts
Status: Failed
Well, again, I bought a book but haven't write a single word in it. There are lots of love, growth, happy and positive surrounding. Too much that it's not easy to keep track of. Perhaps I should think of another way. Something similar? Or try it again next year. Never too late, right?

So, I guess overall I failed. Never mind. Let's do it again, next year!

xoxo

Reviewing 2012

Few more days till we say good bye, 2012. Despite the ridiculous world-end joke and countless of lives taken by natural disaster and some by corrupted monster. It has been good to me. I just looked back my photos from 2012 and some little notes I've been writing througout the year. It's all quite beautiful. Sometimes you don't realize how much you've done and what happened in a year until it's all over!

So let's do a little recap. Mostly for myself, really.

20120112-075455.jpg

Roy and I rang in the new year in Taiwan, which included good food from local restaurant to night markets, and comfortable stay at Taipei, Beitou and Taoyuan.

20120120-214818.jpg

Shortly afterwards, I celebrate my forever-21 birthday with closest friends (seemingly my only crowd too) in Hong Kong. With most delicious cheesecake cake, hometown favourite's bah-kut-teh and homemade party food.

20120130-134051.jpg

That same month, Roy and I went home for Chinese New Year. The first Chinese New Year without granny. Prayed. Missed. Smiled.

20120210-221719.jpg

Travel to Chiangmai, Chiangrai, Laos, Myanmar and Bangkok with Roy, his sister and father in February.

20120306-175406.jpg

Start working with Roy's father in March. A motor manufactory. Office based in Hong Kong. Department? International trade and development. Job title?  Business Development Manager. Job description? Mostly acting as a translator, then, some sales operation, handling customer inquiry and follow up, and production organizer.

20120419-084021.jpg

April, my first business trip to Taipei.time 3D2N , Taipei, Taichung and Taoyuan.

20120520-053054.jpg

Stay up all night for the Champion League Finals in May with the boys, mahjongs, blackjack, poker, boardgame and lots of snacks.

20120703-075015.jpg

Another business trip in June, to Japan! Excited. I haven't been to Japan since 1995. So , business or not, busy or not, it's still a great trip. 4days 3nights in Tokyo. Shibuya, Shinjuku, Odaiba, Asakusa; Sushi, sashimi, crepe, ice cream, ramen, bento; even went hot-spring at Ooedoonsen!

A lot happen between July and August...

20120809-080217.jpg

Visit Sophia and spend time catching up with her mother after months.

20120807-174455.jpg

Applied to study law and accepted by HKU.

20120807-174058.jpg

Girlfriend, Claudia finally came for few days.

20120806-150257.jpg

Completed our probationary period. Having my very own work station.

20120831-065414.jpg

Exploring different summer activity such as Kayaking...

20120831-001012.jpg

and clam fetching

20120919-045533.jpg

Then, September. Marked the fifth year. 1827days together. Not long, but definitely not short.

image

Travel month - October... I went Taipei and Taichung with Roy and my parents. Then to Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto with Roy.

image

November, big month! Most important of year 2012. Roy and I bought a place of our own. A place we proudly call "our home". Although it means years of loan repayment and certainly one of the biggest commitment, but we are truly happy. We are very blessed, to have supportive family, to have good luck in property hunting, to have the bank approved our mortage loan. Thank you.

image

Early Christmas celebration and Bear's belated birthday celebration the night before our flight. It's been a while.
image

Flew to Wuhan with Roy and his mother to visit her family, relatives. Great luck to have experienced first snow on Christmas night.

xoxo

26Dec/120

Greetings from Wuhan

Hello from Wuhan! Just a short post.

I'm at the airport waiting to board . Heading back to Hong Kong after 4 days here. Well, it's a 3day3night trip to be exact. Relatives are very welcoming as usual. New home at Dong Hu (East Lake) is big. 2600sqm on 26 floor. However , the environment is bad. Still developing. Perhaps it need another 5 years to be fully developed. Basically eat, badminton, eat, talk, sleep are all we did. Weather is bearably cold. We have first snow on Christmas night! And right now outside the boarding gate as I blog. Not the first time I see snow or snowing ... but you know.. it's always excite me.

Anyway, Happy boxing day! xoxo

The names

Sandy Hook Elementary, Connecticut, Newtown, shootings. These are words "trending" over the world. Children lives taken by a mentally ill with a gun. Over 100 shots. 20 children, 6 adults. No parents should ever have to bury their children. I am sorry. I hope you are at a better place now, watching over your love one, help them through this.

Like what Morgan Freeman said , turn off the news. If the media is going to heroically report name of the killer, turn off the news. Nobody has to know who is the killer, he shouldn't be remembered, for what he did. It's true that it possibly lit the fire for next tragedy. Luring criminals to topped the current one. From university massacre, to high school massacre, and now elementary's... so what's next? nursery ? If you are going to tweet, post "pray for the victims in Newtown" or something like that, let's take a moment to remember, at least one of them. Can you?

Let's remember the victims for once :
